Why houses
A smaller school inside the school
Every pupil is placed in one of four houses on joining, and stays there. A house mixes ages, so a Class VI pupil practises for the inter-house march past beside a Class XI prefect, and learns something about responsibility that no lesson delivers as efficiently.
Houses are led by house captains under the guidance of house masters and mistresses. Points are awarded through the year for academic performance, attendance, sport, debate, music, art and service, and the house cup is decided on the total.
