Life in the hostel
A routine that makes room for work and rest
Boarders wake, eat and study to a timetable, which is the point of boarding: the day has a shape, and prep happens whether or not anyone feels like it. Wardens supervise the dormitories, and teaching staff take evening study so that help is available where a pupil is stuck.
Meals are cooked on campus to a weekly menu. Evenings are for games and for the library, and Sundays allow letters home, laundry, tuck and a slower pace. Parents are welcome on visiting days and are asked to keep to them so that the routine holds.
What boarders should bring
Packing for the hostel
- Complete school uniform sets, games kit and a pair of white canvas shoes.
- Bedding, a mosquito net, towels and a laundry bag, all name-marked.
- Toiletries, a water bottle and a torch.
- Stationery, a dictionary and the prescribed textbooks.
- A trunk or suitcase with a lock, plus a small holdall.
- No valuables, no mobile phones and no electrical appliances.
